the art and science of Aromatherapy
Phytochemistry
Use your senses to explore the elemental nature of each plant, investigating its chemistry through the lens of the five elements—Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth—and the four qualities of Cold, Dry, Hot, and Wet. This approach cultivates a deeper understanding of each plant’s energetic signature and how it interacts with individual constitutions.
Distillation
Gain hands-on experience with the art of distillation and learning time-honored techniques for producing both high-quality hydrosols and essential oils. Students work with multiple distillation methods including a traditional copper still and a Turkish still, to understand how plant material, method, and intention shape the final aromatic medicine.
Formulation
Learn the properties, dosages, and therapeutic applications of a wide range of essential oils, and how to build individualized formulas guided by elemental and Ayurvedic constitutional principles. Through sensory discernment and clinical understanding, students learn to match plant intelligence to the unique energetic, emotional, and physical needs of each constitution.
DeAnna's Teachers
This aromatherapeutic class is grounded in decades of clinical study and direct transmission from leaders in modern aromatherapy, including mentorship with Jeanne Rose, Marcel Lavabre, Michael Scholes, Horst Rechelbacher, and Robert Tisserand. Drawing from these lineages, the class integrates safety, plant chemistry, sensory intelligence, and traditional methods, guiding students to work with essential oils as expressions of plant, place, and process.
